SHANE DEVRIES PAINTINGS

good old surreal art
i love the look and feel of it

As said by Trendland.com

Australian born and based self-taught painting addict Shane Devries has given into painting full time in the last year. He has one solo show under his belt and preparing works for his second show entitled, “From Somewhere Else”. The exhibition takes a peculiar journey through curious landscapes and introduces bizarre characters. The overall theme of floating and weightless objects invites our minds to wander and drift, while exciting our own imagination and curiosity. Along the exhibition he will be releasing a book of all his work and the sketches that led him to his final pieces. I can see his style developing into a great 3-D cartoon.
The show opens at Gallery 139 in Adelaide, 26th November 09.

THe Big Fart

wish i could fly frm my farts
(just not into walls or naked guys)

INFO

A sculpture for the wild books. This bodacious creation was birthed from the brain of sculptor Chen Wenling. His works include nothing less than weird, wild, and wicked! This particular sculpture is called “What You See Might Not Be Real” and is part of a new exhibition at Joy Art Gallery called “Emergency Escape.” Generally his exhibitions include a bunch of characters that sit inside a single theme (like pigs, or monotone Red people), so this is a fabulous departure of style and a crashing crank to subject matter. Discover for yourself the hugeness of this farting bull, and discover the celebrity devil he’s destroying. The big fart! “放屁“ (fang pi) in Chinese literally means to fart but in slang it means to bluff or lie.Chen Wenling’s previous exhibition was called “God of Materialism” at the Asia Art Center - logical transition to the subject matter here, yes? The bull is the economy, the man being smashed? Bernie Madoff. What a lovely composition!Made of fiberglass, various paints, 20+ feet tall.Emergency ExitJoy Art GalleryBeijing, ChinaChen Wenling Solo ExhibitionCurator: Huang DuDisplayed through October 11 2009This post from the World Famous Design Junkies sculpture category.

Death of Art

might b some of the art i make if i was to do any at all

INFO:
Rozanna Hawksley’s brilliantly eery work reminds me so much of Francis Bacon’s paintings. Their austere expression deals with aspects of the human condition, particularly death. “Rozanne Hawksley combines textiles, found objects and embroideries to create small-scale textile installations. They all pack an emotional punch, many dealing with themes of loss, isolation and the effects of war (Hawksley herself was a war-time evacuee).” Her work is accompanied by a self-titled book written by Mary Schoeser, which studies the artist’s process and expression.
